A Thoroughly Enjoyable night last night, carrying out a St. Andrew’s Day – “Talk & Play” session with my Bagpipes at the 1st Coity Brownies Group in Coity, Bridgend.
I explained the component parts of the Dress Uniform and history behind Clans & Tartans. Also explaining the component parts of the Practice Chanter & Bagpipes.
This included demonstrating on assembly what the Bagpipes sound like ‘out of tune’, then to show how the sound improves as the Drones are adjusted to come in sync with the Chanter, through minute adjustments.
It was a pleasure taking excellent questions from a really young engaged audience.
Thereafter, I played ‘Happy Birthday’ because the group are celebrating their 60 year group anniversary.
Finally to play the Bagpipes: Tunes included “Calon Lan” & the upbeat 6/8 Marches – “Bonnie Dundee”, “Hotpunch” & “Steamboat”.
Thank you to Karen, the Brownies & staff for inviting us, for the warm welcome & Teddy Bear Biscuits 🙂
