John was wonderful to work with from the first email sent. He provided great suggestions for song choice and was knowledgeable about our venue and any possible restrictions. I my was an amazing touch to our day to have bag pipes play during our entrance and exit. The guests and ourselves enjoyed listening to the beautiful music he created! Thank you.
We were recommended John when looking for a bagpiper to play at my mothers funeral. From start to finish John was professional in his approach. He provided us with links to view his work that helped us choose songs to play throughout my mother’s funeral. The feedback I have had from people who attended my mother’s funeral stated that the bagpiper was amazing and all felt it was a beautiful part of my mother’s special day. Should anyone need a bagpiper for any occasion we as a family will 100% recommend John. Thank you John for helping us give my mother the best send off she truly deserved.
John played at my brothers funeral and it was perfect. He was professional, approachable and clear on what was needed. He played beautifully which made the whole experience very moving but personal. We thank John for what he did with such grace and compassion. I would most definitely use John again and would recommend him to anyone.
I booked John to play at my daughter’s wedding 2 years ago and he did such an amazing job, I asked him to play for us at our wedding in June this year. It was wonderful to spend time with John and Louise again and it felt like welcoming old friends back in to our family.
John played for the guests arriving at the ceremony and my arrival, the ceremony and throughout the day, finishing with piping us into the evening party with all the beautiful tunes I had requested from his website. He also played the Piobaireachd, the old classical pipe music which takes great talent to play and is very precious to me as this was a favourite of my late Father.
I can’t say enough about John’s professionalism and skill at playing the bagpipes. Not only was he beautiful turned out, every note of the beautiful haunting tunes was perfect and I felt so proud for our small bridal party to be led up the aisle by him, back down the aisle with my husband and into our evening party to our guests.
I can’t recommend John highly enough and all I can hope is we can find another reason/excuse to have him playing the pipes for us again soon.
With huge thanks to John and Louise.
Lindsey and Mark.
John played at my fathers celebration of life service at Gwent crematorium recently. He was polite and courteous, always responding to my questions promptly and making lovely suggestions.
He tailored the music perfectly using our very personal choices and some of his suggestions. My Dad would have been so proud and touched. It was incredibly moving to have John play in front of the hearse as we went down the road to the chapel. It was a moment that made a very sad day a very moving experience. Thank you John.
We hired John for our wedding in June 2023. Everyone loved him, including myself and my bride, and for the price paid, he’s extremely good value for your money. Can’t find any faults, we loved having him perform at our wedding.
John played at the church for my Wedding, welcoming the guests and the groom. He was a surprise for my guests but especially the groom, my husband.
John was so lovely and fitted in with all my guests. He played exactly what I wanted and was so professional. Both he and Louise made everyone feel welcome and assisted with beautiful photos.
Everyone commented on how lovely it was to hear the Bagpipes played so beautifully.
John is highly recommended.
Thankyou for making our Wedding Day extra special. Top quality from our first meeting, the planning and your friendly efficiency on the day. So many quests were touched by your playing and we will all remember our time shared and the atmosphere your playing created. Thankyou x.
John played for us recently for Fathers Day. A family present to our Dad which was a total surprise for him. He absolutely loved his surprise, John played the songs we asked for and more which was absolutely amazing from Calan-Lan to the Scottish National Anthem. It left my dad speechless. John was so professional, I can honestly highly recommend, we will definitely be using John again in the future.
John played at the service of my father at the crematorium in Llanelli in South Wales in May. Everyone commented on how moving it was to have the piper playing. John walked with the service director in front of the hearse from the gates to the entrance and played him into the crematorium. He was very careful beforehand to ensure he played songs which had meaning for us as a family. He was very smart in his grey tartan. Everyone said we did my dad proud. Thank you John.
We found John to be so accommodating with our requests at Bob Yuills service at the Crematorium in Cwmbran South Wales and he then led our family into the Church thanksgiving in Newport. What an excellent piper. Very very helpful with advice. He really went the extra mile. We all highly recommend John. Very professional. Smart and a good piper.
I hired John to play at our wedding 6/5/23 at Llanharry Church, he was phenomenal! He was a surprise for my husband and guests and they loved him. From word go he just couldn’t do enough! I highly recommend.
Thank you so much John for playing at our wedding in Hensol Castle on the 27th March 2023. We kept the bagpipes as a Surprise for our guests and the guests loved it and was such a special touch especially as a lot of our guests had travelled down from Scotland. John played beautifully, and really made our day even more special. We would recommend John to anyone who is looking to book entertainment for their big day. Thanks Again John. – Jason and Charlotte.
My dad was born in Glasgow and lived in Wales for over 45 years, John played a mixture of Scottish and Welsh songs, it was truly beautiful and made dads send off perfect, I can’t thank him enough for making us smile on a very hard day.
My aunt was Scottish but married a Welshman and lived for over 60 yrs in Wales. We felt it was fitting that we have a piper play at her funeral. John was recommended to us. We found John to be very personable, helpful and professional. He assisted us with music choices for each part of the funeral and played wonderfully on the day. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend John for any event.
John played at our wedding recently. I couldn’t have asked for a more professional and reliable service. He played beautifully and was a special addition to our wedding day. We would highly recommend. Thank you John.
I actually come across John, by pure accident on social media. Me and my twin were planning my dear dad’s funeral, and John just completely finished every aspect of class for dad’s final journey at Morriston Crematorium on the 16-01-2023. Dad wasn’t Scottish he was a very proud English man but loved the bagpipes, we picked Royal music with John’s help as to us this was more fitting. I can’t thank John enough for his help and time, everything was perfect, all was timed to precision, as this was something we hadn’t told the family and friends about, John is the most accommodating person I’ve had the pleasure to meet under such sad circumstances, again John I wish you well, and thank you so much from all of us, I can highly recommend John’s services to anybody for any special occasion.
John played the bagpipes at our recent Burns Night Supper. John is professional and reliable. He also played the Welsh National Anthem – much appreciated by all attendees.
When my dear Dad passed away just after Christmas I knew that we had to have a piper. John was superb! Polite and respectful, he was happy to play my requests and I was happy to trust him to add a few more that he thought were suitable. His contribution to my father’s funeral was significant. My father, a proud Scot who loved the sound of the pipes, would have enjoyed it immensely.
We held our first Burns Supper in Llancarfan five years ago. We wanted a piper but weren’t sure who to contact, and I can’t remember how I heard about John, but I’m so glad I contacted him and he was available. His presence and great playing really made that first Burns event. We’ve had him back for every one since. John is professional, reliable and a joy to deal with. And now that we’ve done several of these suppers, it feels like he and his wife are part of the Llancarfan “family”. We couldn’t imagine holding the event with any other piper. So, all in all, I can’t recommend John highly enough.
It is sad when anyone dies. However, John Campbell made the loss of a Husband, father, and shipmate infinitely more bearable. His advice and good humour coupled with his patience for last minute changes, made the situation all the more bearable. I have worked with John on a few occasions, but this is the first time it was so close to home. He always arrives early in order to be prepared. We managed to keep John’s part in the funeral secret until the very last moment. There were tears of sadness yes, but many of joy at the tunes played. Thank you John.
John was very professional from the first message I received right up until the end of my Fathers funeral. The Bagpipes set a beautiful tone to the service and gave my Dad the perfect send off. John played the bagpipes beautifully and in perfect time and I would highly recommend him to everyone.
We hired John Campbell to play at our wedding 10. 11. 2022. Myself and my family could not be anymore impressed by his beautiful performance. It was truly breath taking. Prior to the wedding, John dedicated himself to making sure the plan in place was understood in full and performed to the upmost highest of standards. It was incredible in every way. We lost our nanny earlier in the year and so the performance was for my Scottish father. It was a complete surprise for him and he said “that was one of the most incredible moments of my life, I will never forget that”. There wasn’t a dry eye in the church. John, thank you again for making our day so outstanding by your incredible performance. I really felt proud to be half Scottish and I’m so thankful for providing us with such a high class performance. Thank you- Jemma and Jack Goodey.
We had organised John to pipe me into our ceremony, and had kept it a secret from friends and family. John was great, and incredibly discreet when at the venue before playing. He offered great advice on which songs to play and was professional throughout. All of our guests loved the special touch to the wedding and we’d highly recommend John for any special occasion. Thank you for making our day even more wonderful!
We recently hired John for our wedding in Bridgend as we had several guests coming down from Edinburgh and wanted to surprise guests as they arrived at the venue from the church. I contacted John and he was incredibly helpful in helping us to arrange the surprise and ensure the timings were all correct for the day. All our guests absolutely loved listening to John play as we had our photos taken and drinks with canapés. Several weeks later and people are still sharing the music online and commenting how perfect Johns music was with a mix of Welsh and Scottish classics. John then also piped us to the top table which really made such a good atmosphere for the rest of the celebrations. Many thanks for all your help John making this such a special treat for everyone.
I contacted John to play at the funeral of our dear son. We are not Scottish but wanted bagpipes because they are truly spiritual instruments. The funeral, in Wales, was quite difficult to organize as there were mourners from across the country; most were relatively young. John offered a number of songs; but while planning the funeral his general experience and advice helped immensely. The family felt his being there added a great deal of dignity and honour to our dear son’s departure. His music was very moving and very beautifully played. Afterwards, at the tea, so many people came forward and complimented John’s work. God bless you John.
I booked John to play at my husband’s funeral. From the very first phone call, he was polite, helpful and professional. My husband was Scottish and I am Welsh but he had been living in Wales for many years. I had to rely heavily on John choosing what to play, as I only knew one song that my sister in law recommended! John arrived early, played beautifully and it was special to have him there, to honour my husband’s Scottish roots and his family. Thank you John.
I booked John for a surprise for my wife on our wedding day john and his wife met us at the bandstand on Chepstow River bank and he was incredible, even went way over the time booked an absolute show stopper for our special day finish by him playing whilst walking us back to the wedding car, a real gentleman and a cracking bagpiper worth every single penny can’t recommend him enough.
Myself and my husband got married on 2nd October 2022 at Court Coleman. I’m Scottish and my husband lived in Scotland for many years so we wanted a piper at our wedding. I searched online and came across John Campbell. We were a bit nervous as most of our guests were from Wales. We never told anyone we planned to have a piper so everyone was totally surprised and everyone loved hearing the Scottish and Welsh tunes he played. We couldn’t have picked anyone better that John, his piping skills were superb and totally made our day everyone commented on what a lovely touch it was having a piper. John’s lovely wife Louise was there to take a short video, he put us all at ease with his easy going demeanor that we included him in quite a few of our wedding photos, can’t rate him highly enough.
I first met john at a wedding fayre as I Scottish family I straight away looked into booking him for our wedding. John was lovely communication was great from day of booking right up to the wedding. John was amazing at our wedding played a variety of pieces as we requested so many of our complemented him. I would highly recommend John and wouldn’t hesitate in booking him in the future.
It’s hard to describe how pleased we are that we booked John for our wedding. Everything from his email communication leading up to the event was brilliant. His performance on the day was absolute perfection and he brought such a kind and enthusiastic energy with him. So many of our guests commented on how wonderful his playing was. We could not recommend him more. Thank you so much John, Isla and Chris.
We had John play at our wedding on the 18th of September 2022. I was born and raised in Wales but my heritage is Scottish and was brought up with bagpipes. My father suddenly passed away in 2019, and he always wanted me to have them at my wedding. From the moment I heard John play, (before I got to meet him) I knew I had made the right decision. Meeting John just before my ceremony confirmed that I had 100% made the right choice. From start to finish, John was absolutely incredible. He got involved with all of our guests who also adored him. Had photos with guests and family and just got involved which was incredible. I honestly could not recommend him enough! What a true gentleman with a heart of gold and a passion for what he does best. What an absolute pleasure ? X.
We chose John to play at my father Phil Moore funeral as Wales best and well respected Bagpiper and was blown away by his talent and professionalism. Although we were devastated by the loss of our father. John’s bagpipe renditions helped us perfectly honour our dad Scottish heritage and life. We had comments on how beautiful and moving John’s music was, some said they had goosebumps as soon as they heard John. Best of all, John was a DREAM to work with which was something that really helped my family and I during our time of grief. Very grateful for him and will be using him again in the future for happier occasions. Diolch yn fawr John.
Would recommend anyone for any occasion , used John for my mothers funeral, his bagpipe sound was amazing, everyone spoke highly of John and had us all in tears my mother would be so happy that he played the Flower of Scotland just so amazing x.
John! What can I say? I first met John and his lovely wife at a wedding fayre at the St David’s Hotel in Cardiff Bay and as soon as I met him I was all emotional with happy tears in my eyes. I can’t pin point it but for some reason I knew this man was going to be a significant point in my wedding. John was so accommodating around our date changes due to covid, even offering to travel from Gower to Cardiff after he was already booked for our wedding on one of our date changes, just so we could enjoy hearing his beautiful music on our day. So many lovely comments from guests about John and his wife and the music he played. Every time I hear John’s music I’m covered in goosebumps and reduced to tears. I could not recommend John enough and he’s such great value for money for the impact he creates. I look forward to having John at future family events and am absolutely made up by the service him and his wife provided. Thank you John for making my wedding memories magical. Much love, Mr and Mrs Dando. (Frances and Matt) xxxxx.
Mr John Campbell played for my 70th Birthday on 1st July at Bedwas Rugby Club. He piped guests arriving, and piped inside the venue. It was amazing. The guests joined in with singing to the music.
John was engaged to support Llandough Community Council in its celebrations of the recent HM The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Anniversary. He led the procession from the centre of the village to the location where the beacon was lit and was followed by a large group of residents of all ages. His bagpiping is of the highest standard and he certainly dressed for the part. His contribution to the success of the event was immense and he was an absolute pleasure to work with. I would recommend him without hesitation.
We got married June 4th 2022 and we chose John to participate in our wedding. John is a true professional, gave us the most personal touches with his performance at our wedding playing Welsh themed tunes alongside a variety of songs chosen by us. All our guests commented on how beautiful the sound of the bagpipes were at the ceremony and during photographs. Highly recommended, so glad we had John for our day, highest standards and a true gentleman who makes you feel at ease. Mr and Mrs McNamara.
We booked John for our wedding in 2020 but due to covid we had to postpone it twice, John was amazing and very accommodating. The level of communication between myself and John was 10/10. We had John to play for the arrival of our guest at the reception and just after 🙂 he was absolutely amazing and couldn’t have asked for any more, Steph and Ryan.
“Hi John. Just a quick follow up to commend you on your playing skills and support which was an emotional but also a top class send off for Neil. I believe that people will talk about this occasion for many years to come together with an outstanding turnout. Thank you so much for making the day a memorable experience, you are to be applauded. With best regards. “.
We originally booked John in 2019 for our wedding in 2020, but because of covid we postponed 3 times and then had a venue/time change as well. Since the very start, John has been absolutely amazing with his communication, changing dates for us and the services provided. John piped for the arrival of guests, groom and groomsmen, he piped me down the aisle and played while we signed the registrar then left the ceremony room. On the day, John and his wife Louise, were polite and on time. Louise even helped with taking a few photos, and making sure everyone was where they needed to be. I cannot praise the service we received enough, and will 100% book in the future for another event! Myself, husband and guests loved having you both as part of our day!
I saw John on Facebook and decided to book him for our wedding and am thoroughly delighted that I did. From our first emails to the very day of our wedding John was fantastic at corresponding and making sure that every detail for the day was correct. John played a mixture of tunes for us and was more than happy to travel from Registra’s to Wedding venue to entertain us and our guests. My guests thoroughly enjoyed the bagpipes and were all very touched and quite emotional by John’s appearance. The bagpipes are an excellent statement for a Wedding. Johns partner Louise accompanied him to take some photos and am very happy she did, we were given some lovely photos to look over whilst waiting for the official photographer. I cannot praise John enough and wouldn’t hesitate to book him again in the future. I thoroughly recommend John who is a totally professional gentleman.
Absolutely amazing from start to finish! My guests were left in awe and had goose bumps! It takes your wedding from one level to the next and you couldn’t have a nicer man doing it for you. Would 100% recommend to anybody!
We had John play for our wedding in April 2022! From the first communication with John back in 2019 he has been brilliant! We had to reschedule twice due to covid but John has been fantastic, Great communication, Very professional and kept me updated and informed during the process. John played as I walked down the aisle as a surprise to our guests and it was amazing, There wasn’t a dry eye in the room, My guest couldn’t stop commenting on how great he was! He did a brilliant job of hiding out of the way before the ceremony so no one had any idea! He played a fantastic variety of songs during our photographs a mixture of both Scottish (for myself) and welsh (for my husband) and kept our guest entertained! Both John and his lovely wife who came along to help out are Wonderful, Friendly and professional. I really cannot recommend John enough!
John recently played at my surprise 70th birthday party. He is an excellent piper, very professional and was smartly turned out. He was friendly and took time to speak to family members. Was obliging, when requested, if he would be willing to have a few photos take of him with guests. All commented on how well he played.
John played at our wedding in early April 2022 and I can’t recommend him highly enough. We were delighted with his tunes and songs and received many fantastic comments by our guests. From first meeting, during the wedding day, and after John has been friendly, professional, communicative and accommodating. Giving advice on tunes from his extensive repertoire and always available to answer any questions or queries. His playing was a really special touch to our wedding day and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend him. Thank you very much John and Louise.
We had John playing at our wedding recently and it was amazing! The mixture of Welsh and Scottish tunes was incredible, all guests loved it. John’s professionalism and attitude was outstanding from beginning until end and would definitely recommend, it did bright up an already fantastic day.
John the Bagpiper played at our daughters wedding in March, at beautiful Llechwen Hall and what an incredible start to the day John made it. John played a variety of traditional Welsh music and he was an absolutely amazing! John had great communication and attention to detail prior to the day, turned up on time, dressed to perfection and played lovely music as the bride and bridesmaids were getting ready. John then escorted the bridal party to the ceremony entrance and later they were piped to the top table. There wasn’t a guest who didn’t comment how lovely John had played and what a fabulous addition he had made to the day. I highly recommend John the bag piper to make your day as special as ours was. Thank you John, you were amazing.
We asked John to play at my dad’s funeral recently, he was referred to us by our funeral director. Dad was a very proud Scotsman and we knew having someone play the bagpipes at his funeral was exactly what he would’ve wanted and deserved. Communication with John was excellent, he kept us updated via email and gave us a number of suggestions of tunes he could play that would fit in perfect with the service. John played as the cars entered the crematorium, he also played as we carried dad in and as we all left after the service. He also took the time to offer is condolences to the family after the service before he left. I cannot recommend him enough, he is very professional and skilled at what he does.
What can I say? What an honour to have John play at our sons’ wedding in February. Having lived as a family a few years in Scotland, we have always loved the sight and sound of the pipes and drums. When we first saw John at our nephews’ wedding a few years back, I think we always hoped that he would be able to play at our sons’ wedding this February gone. Luckily for us, he could. The choice of tunes, songs and hymns was amazing and both John and Louise, having done this a few times before, were always ready to offer advise on when and how the pipes should/would be played. This worked brilliantly. They were always available to respond to any questions the busy couple had on the build-up to the wedding, and, on the big day it went flawlessly and everyone was so impressed with Johns’ playing and commented to us so. I cannot praise him highly enough for helping to make our sons and now daughter-in-law’s wedding day such a fantastic day for them and everyone else there. Many thanks again John and Louise.
Professional and empathetic. Contacted John to request his services at my mums funeral. At such a difficult and emotional time the process was made so much easier thanks to John knowing funeral protocols and assisting with song choices. Mums funeral was very special and the bagpipes was a huge part of this. I would not hesitate to recommend.
I emailed John to ask for him to play at our wedding after seeing him play at my cousins. The massive amount of comments and praise we received from the guests said it all. From start to finish, he was very professional and in constant communication. He has a large repertoire and has something for everyone. Luckily, the rain held off for us that day, but it wouldn’t have mattered to John. He was happy to be involved in the photos too which made my day. Would 100% recommend John to anybody. We couldn’t thank him enough.
We hired John for our mother’s funeral, he was very professional and helpful with our music choices, nothing was to much trouble. Guests at the funeral all commented how special the piper leading the hearse was and how it was a fitting tribute with a wonderful Scottish touch that mum would of been proud of. Thank you John for everything at such a sad time.
John played at my husbands funeral. He was able to play my requests and offer suggestions to enhance the music. His piping was superb and his rendering of the Welsh national anthem at the graveside was poignant and haunting. A fitting end as my husband was laid to rest. Many people present commented on the beautiful music.
John very reliable, on time, John played for my Dad, s 80th birthday everyone really enjoyed , John had time for photos and interacted with guests in the evening, well communicated with all involved.
John is a very accomplished piper with a vast repertoire. He provided his services for a memorial service for one of our members, and also played at a social evening held in his memory. His playing was excellent and he was happy to accommodate all our needs. I would thoroughly recommend him for any occasion.
I hired John to play his Pipes as a surprise at a 99th Birthday party. From the first contact to meeting John on the day he was very professional. He ensured he was aware of the requirements of the day and went through his intended repertoire incorporating tunes at my request. His playing is outstanding, and his interaction with the Birthday Girl was lovely, along with Louise who took some photos of the day, in all the experience was wonderful. I highly recommend John as he really will enhance your special day.
I asked John to pipe me into my wedding as a surprise to all but me, he communicated with me several times in the lead up and gave me so many options as to what songs were played. On the day itself John was amazing and sneaked about so the guests didn’t see him. He was so friendly and when all the nerves of walking down the aisle hit he just was a lovely calming person to make us smile. He happily posed for pictures with all the boys and chatted to everyone. He was such a highlight of the day and I had so many people comment on what a lovely touch it was to have him there.
John played at our wedding and I cannot recommend him enough. Communication was fab before and during our day! He was so friendly and the music he played on our big day was amazing! Thank you to his lovely wife Louise for taking lovely photos as well during our big day.
I was recommended by my venue to get in touch with John. After getting married in Gretna Green and having nag pipes I wanted to tie in both my away wedding to my home wedding and I was absolutely over the moon with John. Nine of my guests knew I was having bag pipes and John was very helpful in the situation and agreed to hide until I arrived and walked down the Isle. He piped the same songs I had for my official wedding and he made my whole guest list cry (which I did not expect). I had so much feedback from my guests saying how amazing John was and how he made the ceremony so emotional. Myself, husband, family and whole guest list could not recommend John enough. Very accommodating and president the whole time he preformed.
I have hired John twice now and honestly wouldn’t look anywhere else. Not only is he incredible with the pipes, but he adds extra detail to make the experience that touch more special!
John played at my mothers funeral November 2021. He was very professional and played a couple of different tunes that was very fitting for the occasion. A lovely gentleman.
Mr Campbell played at our mother’s funeral on November 2021. He was helpful and professional from the time we first contacted him. He guided our selection of tunes making the service both special and memorable. Thank you John.
John was absolutely outstanding at our wedding to greet our guests and walk us out! Every guest said it gave them shivers listening to him. As the bride I definitely did arriving in my car! Would definitely say everyone needs this at their wedding ? Perfect.
John was fantastic at our wedding. I cannot recommend John enough, from greeting our guest at the ceremony right though to piping us to top table John was very professional and a fantastic performer. He was very accommodating with song choices as I wanted Welsh and Scottish songs. Johns piping skills are amazing and all our guests were highly impressed. Thank you John for making our day extra special Samantha and Richard Macleod.
John was absolutely incredible. He played in the grounds as guests were arriving and after the ceremony. It was really special and emotional to open the windows and hear him playing as I was getting ready and as I arrived ready to walk down the aisle. Everybody was talking about the bagpipes and the impact it had. Prior the wedding John was so helpful and quick to respond. We are so so glad we booked him, it really made the day. Such a talent!
John was absolute incredible. We booked him last minute after our original piper cancelled last minute, three days before our wedding. He could not have been more helpful! His song choices were perfect, he looked so smart and all of my Scottish relatives said it brought a touch of Scotland to our Somerset wedding! I cannot recommend him enough. Professional, friendly, funny and helpful. Would encourage anyone to book.

Piper John played at my daughters wedding in Hereford and was sensational. So many guests commented on his playing and his super smart appearance. John happily chatted to guests and posed for many, many photographs. A thoroughly lovely man who is a master of his craft. Exceptional!
So glad I booked John for my father’s funeral, he made the day very special. John was easy to talk to and very accommodating, he played tunes that we requested and were personal to us. A lot of people commented on how much they enjoyed listening to John playing the bagpipes. What was a day we were dreading, although sad, turned into a day we enjoyed and will always remember. Whatever the occasion if you want to make it special I would have no hesitation in recommending John.
John played at my mum in laws funeral and was absolutely stunning. Everyone commented on how wonderful he was.
John played at our wedding in 22nd August and he was breath taking…He kept on playing and used the area of the grounds to play and it was very personal. His sound was incredible and his punctuality and presentation was perfect. John is a lovely man and made our day so very special thank you John x.
John was the bagpiper for my wedding recently held in South Wales. My bride and her family are from Scotland so to have a piper at the wedding was a must! John was fantastic. Kept in communication throughout, I was able to book with ease and confidence. Our guests gave us lots of compliments on his ability with one of our Scottish guests stating you wouldn’t believe John wasn’t Scottish born with his ability to play the pipes. I would like to thank John for his professional and enthusiastic manner. If I ever need a bagpiper again I will definitely be asking John to attend.
John was absolutely fantastic from start to finish. A trouble free booking process followed by an amazing set on our wedding day. My wife is Scottish and had a large family presence which didn’t deter John in any way. Our guests actually believed him to be a piper of many years experience, he really is that good. He was one of the many highlights during our day and wouldn’t hesitate booking again. Thank you so much.
John played the bagpipes as a surprise for our daughter Brodie and Ryan’s wedding at Highnam on 14th August 2021. John played as they left the church and our daughter said one if the most special moments of their day was hearing the bagpipes and then seeing John appear through a walkway of trees towards them. John played songs as requested during drinks reception and helped with selecting upbeat tune to pipe them into wedding breakfast. He was friendly, posed for photos and the guests loved him. A real professional with enthusiasm, good communication and so obviously a commitment to making the day special. Great value to. A big thankyou from us all John.
John played at my daughter’s Wedding at Folly Farm, Somerset on 31st July 2021 and his presence and beautiful playing made the day all the more special. The bagpipes are dear to our hearts as we have Scottish blood in the family and regularly visit Edinburgh and Moray in the North West Highlands where I spent all my summers growing up. The day started beautifully when the Bride, Bridesmaids and I were having our make up and hair done and we could hear the pipes in the distance from the valley, so haunting and beautiful. John proceeded towards the venue playing all the tunes we had requested so beautifully and carried on playing for the outside ceremony, the photographs, canapes and my daughter and son in law being piped into the Wedding Breakfast. I had some great chats with John and Louise and John and I learnt that we shared the same love of the Piobaireachd and he kindly and superbly played Fields of Gold for me. I sincerely hope one day we have another occasion where we can ask John to come and play for us again and I would highly recommend him to anyone who wishes to have a piper at their own special occasion. Many thanks John. Best wishes Lindsey Sage.
John played at our wedding on the 29th June 2021. He was absolutely brilliant and created such a great atmosphere. All of our guests were full of compliments and even people that passed by stopped and enquired. I can’t thank John and Louise enough for making our day very special.
John piped at our wedding at very shortly notice. It was a surprise for my husband as he’s Scottish and it made the atmosphere so special. John was brilliant and attentive to both of us he piped while our guests were waiting before the church and then came and piped me to the church. So special and made our wedding. Thank you John.
We had a piper for our wedding day. Sadly my wonderful Husband passed, nearly 15 years later, so I thought it fitting that I book John for Nic’s final journey. I left the choice of music up to John, and would definitely recommend him for such a poignant occasion.
John attended at my wife’s internment and he truly made the occasion memorable and gave me/us very special memories. He is a real gentleman and nothing was to much trouble. I would highly recommend John for any occasion and his prices are excellent for the service provided.
“It was fantastic to have John at the funeral of my father, dad has distance Scottish routes and was a veteran of the RAF of 43 years, he passed away at the good age of 87 and was important to the family that dad got the most appropriate send off he could have. The funeral took place at the Cardiff and Glamorgan Memorial Park and Crematorium John started playing “My Home” and “The Mist Covered Mountains” statically as the cortege entered the grounds, then overtook leading to the chapel entrance with RAF Association Standard Bearers and a Bugler from RAF St Athan Voluntary Band participating. Following the service and last post, John played requested “Amazing Grace”, “Calon Lan” and Queen Elizabeth II Salute. He worked so professionally with W A Browne and RAF St Athan Voluntary band in making the services very meaningful and special to the family, thank you John it was very much appreciated.”
As a family, the loss of our mother has rocked the very foundations of our everyday life. A proud Scot, she adored the bagpipes, particularly Amazing Grace, and of course, the Flower of Scotland. Given that she passed away under the Covid restrictions, we knew that so many of the traditions and usual rites of a funeral would be out of reach for mum. However, the one thing all of us said immediately, was we HAVE to try and secure a piper for her. Its the last true and meaningful thing we can do for her, and in the absence of so many of her family and friends who couldn’t attend her funeral, it was a great comfort to everyone who was allowed to attend that John the piper was able to help. He was professional and sensitive. Communicating with him to arrange what songs we wanted and to discuss what the process was, we felt assured, and understood. The trouble was narrowing down the songs to a chosen few, he was very accommodating and took the time to get some background to her life and what was important to mam, so he could match it up with songs to reflect this. On the day, he was punctual and did us all proud, mam especially, playing Amazing Grace, Flower of Scotland and the Skye Boat Song. Everyone commented on what a beautiful tribute it was to mam, and were impressed by how powerful a scene it was for the hearse to be piped into the place by the graveside. I would highly recommend John to anyone looking for an accomplished musician to add an extra layer of wow to any ceremony. Thank you so very much, John. We wish you all the best, and are keeping your number for the memorial service.
Sincere heartfelt thank you to John for his respectful, sensitive musical lead in the farewell tribute to our loved one. John’s experience and professionalism at this sad time made the farewell full of the spirit and music that reflected our Legend in the most respectful and uplifting manner. Many Thanks John.
John played some traditional Irish tunes at my mother’s funeral which really added to the atmosphere of the sad event. He was very professional in his playing and his appearance and we had lots of comments from friends and family on how good he was. I would not hesitate recommending his service to others.
John played as a surprise for our Uncles 100th Birthday Celebrations. He was so open and cooperative to learn a new piece of music as we wanted the Australian National Anthem as part of the set. The organisation and communication from John filled us with confidence that despite being half a world away this was going to be successful. The day worked out so well, our Uncle really enjoyed it and hearing my relatives singing along in the background was great. Thank you John, you really added to his special day.
My mate Billy hired John for a surprise 60th. Birthday for his Wife Mary. Although Mary is through and through Welsh, she loves Scotland and has been there many times and is overwhelmed by the Bagpipes. The family gathering was indeed an unexpected surprise but the icing on the cake was when John arrived in full Scottish Costume and with the Bagpipes in full swing. The whole of the party were flabbergasted and most of them in tears of happiness. Mary was on a high all night. From the time we booked John to the event happening everything was totally organised and professionally composed by John with every little detail expertly performed, If anyone requires perfection John certainly was, We cannot thank you enough John. Regards Bill, Mary and Jim.
John played at my mams interment of ashes in sept, and made a very difficult day so special and all of the family commented on what a wonderful memory we will always have of that day. I read a lot of johns reviews before contacting him, he helped so much with song choice and order of playing them, my mum was welsh born and bred, but just loved the sound of the bagpipes so had the thought to book a bagpiper and john and his partner Louise where definitely the best choice, he was so professional and respectful on the day and gave us plenty of time at the graveside, he even played a couple of beautiful welsh hymns, his playing was so perfect, we will all be forever grateful for such a special memory of our wonderful mam. John she would have loved it x.
John is a genuinely lovely man, he went the extra mile to make my dads wishes come true. John is an absolutely amazing piper, he is professional, understanding, and caring, the whole process from start to finish was perfect. Would highly recommend John for any service. Thankyou you again John for making my dads funeral so special. Michelle.
Absolutely amazing, professional, understanding, caring and very informative, the whole process from start to finish was made so easy due to John leaving no stone unturned. Would highly recommend John for any service. Thankyou once again.

John played at my aunties funeral and he made the whole process from start to finish very easy. The quality of his music is second to none. He was respectful and showed so much attention to detail to make my aunts send off very special. I Highly recommend and will definitely use again but hopefully in happier circumstances next time.
“I came across John Campbell’s – Bagpiper of South Wales link by pure chance. I’m positive it was on a wedding site with a link to him. My late dad being born and raised in Edinburgh, I knew would have approved this, as it was to be a complete surprise for my bride Hayley. John was great at the outset in contacting him. He came back to me so quickly and was able to direct me to his website, which had lots of YouTube links to events he’s joined people at. This made it very straight forward, might I add with his steady reassuring guidance along the way. I was able to plan perfectly both the tunes I wanted him to play and establish how he would fit in at key times in the day. John was as I mentioned a complete surprise for my bride and her father. When the wedding car arrived at the wedding ceremony venue he piped “The Bridal March”. I could just make out my brides reaction from where I was standing waiting for her to join me. It was lovely seeing the occasion and her and her dads faces. John pipped them on in to the ceremony room where we were getting married at The Trefloyne Manor in Penally, just outside Tenby in Pembrokeshire. Everyone’s reaction was so lovely! John was accompanied by his kind wife to assist with arrangements on the day and many of the wedding guests had their photos taken with John. They still message me now several weeks on to say how such a lovely surprise it was having a bagpiper attend our big day due to the Scottish connections. Further and for me such a poignant moment, John joined me and Hayley with a Scottish family friend, where we had our wedding band readings. A Celtic tradition and symbol of our marriage, made perfect with John piping “The Mull of Kintyre” in total private for only a few hand picked people to join us on a small wee bridge with a brook running underneath it. We will always remember that moment. John was with us for a fair time on our special day, piping guests in to the Wedding Breakfast playing “The Gael (Last of the Mohicans Theme Tune)” before leaving, which was quite late that afternoon. I can’t thank John enough. I know my late dad would have been smiling down on us that day with his blessings”.
John played at our wedding on Valentine’s Day 2020. My late grandparents are Scottish, and so we had hired John as a dedication to them and a surprise for my Mum. I was so excited for this surprise, and John did not disappoint! It was absolutely perfect, John is more than talented! It was such a strong memorial to them, and I felt truly proud of my Scottish roots! It was the perfect addition to our day and a real talking point for guests throughout. Thank you John, will never be forgotten. (Image shows John with Bride and Bride’s Father).
Hi John My father David and I wanted to take this opportunity to thank both you and your lovely partner, Louise, for the wonderful Bagpiping at Hyla’s Funeral on Wednesday. It was not just the enchanting quality of your playing which was outstanding, but your total dedication to creating a perfectly respectful and demure ambience to this most sombre of occasions. You facilitated a truly splendid, moving and dignified send off for Hyla, the like of which we have never encountered before. We speak for all of Hyla’s family and friends when we say that we shall remain forever grateful for your kind and thoughtful contribution to her funeral and we will never forget your beautiful Bagpiping. Thank you once again. Please accept our warmest regards and wishes. Debbie and David.
I booked John to play the bagpipes at my father’s funeral as his coffin was carried out of the church. John came all the way from South Wales on the day and did exactly as he was asked. When I spoke to John beforehand and we discussed the tunes he would play I found him very helpful. We received many compliments on John’s behalf about how lovely it was to hear the bagpipes and how well they were played. As a proud Scotsman my father would have been very pleased with his send-off even though he was a McDonald from the Highlands of Scotland and the bagpiper was a Campbell from Wales! That didn’t matter a bit – John was excellent and very professional. I would highly recommend him.
From the moment I met John he was kind and so helpful. He is very organised and listens to all of your needs. He is able to offer invaluable advice and is clearly very experienced. I cannot recommend John enough. Thank you for bag piping at our wedding. Myself and my husband, as well as our guests thought you were fantastic.
I have to say that John set the tone for what proved to be a wonderful wedding day for me and my partner. John was a gentleman throughout, accommodating for all our needs, professional and really popular with all our guests. The sound of the bagpipes certainly added a unique element to our day, which everyone still speaks about and I am so glad that we chose to have John play at our service and I would certainly recommend his services to anyone interested. Can’t thank him enough for the memories he helped create for me, my family and friends.
I just wanted you to know how much it meant to me and my sons that you played the bagpipes at Colin’s funeral. I could not have asked for a better farewell for him and although he had left Glasgow as a boy of 5 or 6 in his heart he was a Scotsman. Two of the tunes you played, his father sang to him as a boy. You have such a gift and talent. It gives me comfort that his final journey was lead by a bagpiper who was so professional.
Adding further to my sisters comment about John Campbell. I found John thoughtful and and respectful in his correspondence with me leading up to our Mums funeral. And on the day John did not let us down with his knowledge and professionalism and his choices of tunes which mirrored what we wanted. We as a family can not praise John highly enough and we would recommend John to anyone, these thoughts not only come from our family but from the large amount of people who attended our Mum’s funeral and asked about him, they were very impressed,. Our Mum’s love of the pipes and the Edinburgh tattoo is well known in our family and the most important thing was John Campbell did our Mum proud,. From the Crawford family Thank you John.
We hired John to play at our mum’s funeral on 20/12/2019. John was very professional and respectful. His bagpipe playing was second to none. John led the departing cortege from mum’s house playing Amazing Grace, he played The Dark Isle on the approach to the crematorium and played Flower of Scotland as mum was carried into the chapel. It was very poignant. The funeral director also pointed out that John was the most professional she had seen. We would highly recommend John Campbell.
Once again we had the pleasure of bagpiper in South Wales John Campbell this time it was for my father’s funeral and what can I say from the time I contacted him to the actual day how professional he was, the day of the funeral as we turned up at the church the piping began and what an amazing sound all three song played were amazing and to this day are still talked about in my parents village. Definitely will not beside to recommend your services to others and even in future we will definitely contact you for other family engagements.
John recently played at our wedding January 2020. Having the bagpipes playing was such a special touch to our day. We didn’t tell our guests he would be there so they were really surprised and thought it was fantastic! Some have already asked for his details. Having the bagpipes playing at our wedding will be a special memory for us always. John was very professional and friendly. He explained what he was going to do and then gave us the space to just enjoy our day. His partner Louise was really friendly and took some great photos for us. Thanks again John!
John recently played at my wedding. He was a great help when it came to choosing appropriate music, he was professional and made me feel at ease. John played prior, during and after the ceremony. All of our guests thought he was fantastic and he made our wedding that more special. I would highly recommend John for any occasion.
John played at my Mum’s funeral following her love for the Pipes after multiple trips to Scotland to attend the Braemar Gathering. John played for 15 or so minutes as guests arrived and again on leaving the church. John captured the mood and the played beautifully and helped to give my Mum a lovely send off. The day of the funeral there was torrential rain but this didn’t deter John and he did an excellent job.
John played a charity event for us on Saturday night. His professionalism care and generosity are immediately apparent. His fantastic playing of such an emotive instrument left all who attended with tears in there eyes. We would Highly Recommend John along with his partner Louise to add a little bit of magic to all your events. Thank you so much from all of us at Finn’s foundation.
John piped at our wedding 22. 09. 19. It was absolutely beautiful to hear Highland Cathedral as I arrived at the church. John made the wedding extra special and is such a warm and friendly person as is his partner. I would Highly Recommend as John added a special touch to our big day.
We hired John for our wedding. He arrived early to do checks of area, put up with my late messages with prompt reply. We highly recommend him a really lovely man, thank you so much for your time.
“Hello John. Rachel and I are only now getting chance to sit down for a moment and take in just how beautiful a day our wedding on Saturday was! We wanted to make sure we thanked you from the bottom of our hearts! Your presence and your amazing bag piping really set the tone for what was a very special day for us and our families and friends! Many people came up to us throughout the time that you were playing and said to us how amazing and atmospheric it was having you playing in the background. Your attention to detail was very special too (e.G. Wearing a tartan close to my late fathers clan). We can’t thank you enough from the bottom of our hearts for making our day such a special one to remember. Thank you also for your lovely photos! We will definitely recommend you in future! Kind regards and all our love. Rachel and Alex.”
John was absolutely incredible from start to finish. Very polite, professional and enthusiastic. Our guests thoroughly enjoyed the piping and complimented how great John was. Would definitely recommend, Thank you for making our day extra special.
We first heard John playing at the St. Donat’s wedding fayre, soon after we’d got engaged. We knew in an instant that we wanted John to play at our wedding. Not only was his playing impeccable but it fit beautifully with the surroundings and acoustics of the Castle. On the day, John was ready and raring to go outside the venue and followed our specific instructions as to when to play and what we wanted to be played to the letter. Whist our wedding day was, on occasion, wet and windy, this did not dampen John’s spirit or ability to play – as he serenaded our guests to our reception. As I am writing this more than a week after the wedding, I’ve lost count of the number of people that have contacted me to praise John’s work. I’d wholeheartedly endorse any person wishing to book John for their wedding; as he played such an important part in our special day.
Absolutely fantastic and professional Piper with the epitomised natural nature that anyone would want for their special day. Would recommend to anyone. Thank you for bringing a spark to our special day John.
John Played at my nan’s funeral on the 26th July and he done an amazing job from the beginning all they way to the end. We had nothing but praise and heart warming comment on John’s participation.
John played at our fathers funeral on 7th August 2019, what a lovely gentleman and so professional from the outset so sincere and helpful. His advice and guidance enhanced the whole experience of what was an emotional day, where you walked in front of the hearse leading him on his final journey and the music touched the hearts of so many that day, he would of been so proud and honoured just as we felt. Thank you so so much John you made it so memorable in such a lovely way xx.
John played at our wedding last Thurday! We can’t thank you enough for your suggestions leading up to the day or your performances on the day! Our guests loved the surprise and we enjoyed your playing even more. Faultless and effortless through out, simply perfect.
“John was extremely professional from day one of organising playing at my dad’s funeral. He did a tremendous job and I was more than happy and I know my dad would have loved the piping. I would have no hesitation in booking him again.”
John did a wonderful job playing at my daughter’s wedding. Although we live in Herefordshire, she has married a Scotsman and the bagpipes made the Scottish contingent feel at home. My favourite bit was seeing him walk around the lake playing his pipes with the sound drifting up towards the garden during the photos and garden drinks. I’d recommend him to play at any event.
John played at my husbands funeral yesterday. He gave a lot of comfort to me and my family. All the advice and help he gave was excellent. It was a warm lovely tribute to my husband Robert. Thank you John from myself and his family.
John played for the full day at our wedding last year and was absolutely amazing and the perfect addition to our day. He was thoroughly loved by everyone there and would highly recommend him to anyone thinking of a piper for their big day.
John played at our wedding last month and was fantastic. All our guests were really impressed, especially half of them being Scottish!
John played at my dad’s funeral yesterday (2nd July 2019). It was such a moving touch to the service that I know my dad would have loved. Thank you very much!
Just wanted to say thank you John for your wonderful playing at dad’s funeral. Everyone said how it touched their hearts. Also thank you for taking the time to ring me explain everything and being so compassionate and professional. Once again my sincere thanks for giving dad a wonderful send off.
