Gwaun-Farran-School-Armistice 11th Nov, 2024.
I approached the assembled school audience positioned in the playground as a surprise playing: “My Home” & the “Mist Covered Mountains”.
For the laying of wreaths & crosses by Veterans, School Staff & Children, I played “Oft in the Stilly Night” & “Salute to Willie, The Royal Fendersmith”.
As the congregation departed back to classrooms, I played: “Flowers of the Forest”, “The Dark Isle” & “Sleep, Dearie Sleep” & “The Dreams of Old Pa Fogarty”.
In addition to local Dignitaries & School Governors, Standard Bearers & Veterans in attendance included: Welsh Guards Veterans, Valley Veterans, Royal British Legion Merthyr Branch & Royal Naval Association area 7.
Thank You to Veteran Paul Foley (pictured) & Headmaster Mr Lewis for asking us along & for their hospitality after the service.
