Memorial-Bagpipes-Bwlch-Powys 28th May, 2023.
Bagpiping yesterday in Bwlch near Crickhowell for the Memorial Service of a Fort William born gentleman who passed in 2020.
I met family members & then ascended to “Allt Yr Esgair” in the Black Mountains, where the memorial stone is placed. As other family members arrived, I was asked to play “Flower of Scotland”, “The Blue Bells of Scotland” & “The Skye Boat Song” & other tunes.
Following the welcome by Widow Annie & Eulogy by daughter Freya, I played “Amazing Grace” for the Whiskey Toast.
Thereafter, I was asked to play “Sailing” before leading mourners from the mountain to “Mhairi’s Wedding”, “The Barren Rocks of Aden”, “Flower of Scotland”, “The Rowan Tree”, “Castle Dangerous”, “The Atholl Highlanders” & many more for the descent.
It was a real honour to be part of such an important event.
