Bagpiping for a Glasgow born Gentleman’s Memorial Service yesterday. He was a member of Rawlins White Memorial LOL 803 Cardiff. The Gent had also resided in Wales for many years. The service was held at St Michael’s Church in Tonwgwynlais, near CastleGoch.
I was given artistic free reign to play suitable tunes for arriving mourners. These tunes included: “My Home”, “The Mist Covered Mountains”. In addition to, “Sleep, Dearie Sleep” & “The Dark Isle”. Specifically requested tunes included: “Flowers of the Forest”, along with, “Highland Cathedral”.
After the service, “Scotland the Brave” initiated a series of Scots tunes. These were “The Rowan Tree”, “Flower of Scotland”, “The Skye Boat Song”, “The Mull of Kintyre”, as well as, “The Blue Bells of Scotland”. To acknowledge the gentleman’s long residence in Wales, In addition, I also played “Calon Lan”, as well as, “Myfanwy”.
In conclusion, I later moved to the Canton Liberal Club for a ‘Celebration of Life’ function. I played as guests arrived & played a multitune recital. Moreover, this reflected the Scots & Welsh aspects of the Gent’s life.
Our condolences to the many colleagues & friends who I met throughout the day.
