Burns Suppers

The tradition of celebrating the anniversary of the famous Scottish poet, Robert Burns’s Birthday (25th January) & dates in and around this, has grown over the years. In addition to traditional Piping in the Haggis, Toasting & Piping the Haggis out of the function room. I also offer to play for the arrival of guests along with a short recital between meal courses.

John was marvellous. He arrived early and helped advise us on what would make for a good programme in terms of when to play, the piping-in of the haggis, and what tunes he could play later and when. His playing outside the hall at the start was truly memorable for guests arriving, especially those walking across the village to the hall. Well what can I say, John at a short 4 days notice was able to fit us in after a wedding he was performing at coming straight to our Lions international Newport and Usk Vale Burns night. He made it really easy for us by preparing a list of Tunes to align with our running order. What was refreshing for us, was that John gave us an insight to the world of Bagpiping explaining the, competition and Qualification process as well as a background to the Tunes he played. He is a really nice guy and I would highly recommend John to any other organisation requiring Bagpipe music within their events. The skirl of the pipes makes any Scotsman’s feel great and John definitely did that for me. On behalf of the Newport and Usk Vale Lions I would to Thank John for helping make our Burns night a great big Success.

John came to Barry Yacht Club’s rescue on Burn’s Night 2016 when our usual piper let us down. What a fantastic discovery he has turned out to be! John is super professional and has a passion for his work which made the night so special back in 2016. We had no hesitation in booking him for our Burn’s Night Supper 2017 and, again, he did not let us down. The evening had drama and fun as we sang and clapped to the pipes. Barry Yacht Club is in John’s diary for 2018; his presence lends authenticity and style to our event.
